A leather alternative grown rather than farmed. The material is a polymer produced by bacteria, and on the runway it reads convincingly enough that a red jacket-and-trouser set was widely taken for a full leather look. Two separate collections used it this season, in both cases placing a material born through a living biological process alongside traditional craft techniques. It sits at the point where sustainability research stops being a press release and starts appearing as an actual finished garment.
