Bermuda shorts have settled into the autumn wardrobe rather than leaving with summer. Outside the New York shows they turned up with heeled flip-flops and a flannel shirt, and in editors' minimalist formulas alongside a V-neck sweater and sleek pumps. The length, at or just above the knee, is what makes them work past September: with tights, boots or a long coat they behave like trousers, which is more than a shorter cut can manage.
